Interview conducted on 12/15/2016
Who are you playing with in 2017?
Free Agent – coreyjemiller@yahoo.com
What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Pitch / Infield
Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
There are definitely a ton to choose from… I had the chance to play with Steven Lopez at Toys this year and his ability to hit the ball through any hole at any time is definitely impressive.
Why do you like the game of softball?
I am extremely competitive and playing allows me to stay active and complete at the same time. I also like the fast pace of the game compared to playing adult league baseball etc..
Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
I think there are a ton of talented players on the west coast that haven't had the opportunity to be seen yet. I think upper softball out here will continue to grow and I would like to see more conference teams appear to allow those guys a chance to play where they deserve to be playing.
What is your height and weight?
6'2 – 210.
Where do you call home?
Phoenix, AZ
What do you do for a living?
I do IT Auditing and Consulting for a Big 4 Accounting firm.
Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played Baseball and Basketball in high school. I played for the ASU Club Baseball team but nothing extremely serious.
What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
The first year I ever played utrip with some buddies from high school and college, we didn't really know what we were doing, but ended up coming in third place in E Worlds in Vegas. My dad pitched for us at the time so being able to experience that with him was even better.
In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
This is my Dad by far. He has taught me everything I know. I definitely wouldn't be where I am today (in life in general) without him.
What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
1 Finger Drop – 1 Finger Overlap. 26 EL or 27 Balanced.
What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Being in AZ it is nice to not truly have an off season. Being able to take BP outside, field some grounders, and play in some back yarders definitely helps.
What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, and the Dallas Cowboys.
What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
I would say Toys for Tots in CA. It is awesome to see all the talent out there, and usually spread out on different teams. Plus, it is all for a good cause.
What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
I would probably say Disney. That place is pretty incredible.
The BLD's with turf infields are nice for infielders as well.
Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
YELP. I love to find some local spots with good ratings and check them out.
Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
I graduated at 5'8 – 135lbs and finally started to grow in college.
