Note: Tre' had a .720 on base percentage and a 10.7 Home Run Frequency as lead off hitter for Bay Area Legends in Conference, a team that had one of the highest strength of schedules in 2018!  Think about how hard that is to do.

Tre' Campbell

USSSA Playing History

Interview conducted 10/26/2018

Who are you playing with in 2019, and who have you played with in the past?
2019 Free Agent – dobombers25@gmail.com

2018 Bay Area Legends

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
1B, C, EH, RF

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I am a fan of people  improving their game if this is what they want to do.  There are too many to name.  IMO Purcell and Branch are two of the most competitive players out there. My brother Mike Mallory also hits it with the best of them.

Why do you like the game of softball?
I like softball, because it takes away things that you have going on in personal life.  While playing softball, that is the only thing that you are thinking about.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
I'm a old military guy, so I'm a little biased. I think that Robbie Fow and Anthony Mastrogiovanni are two up and coming ballplayers that have great futures ahead of them. Also I remember when Mike Williams used to play rec on the BSC. Was known to throw a ball down. lol.  He has worked on his game tremendously and has become one of the best CF in the game today.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Don't have one really.  But last year while playing with AllOut. I had a toe nail that was bothering me and I was running around the park trying to find some clippers.  So the team started calling me toenail.  lol. Also BayArea used to call me a flamingo, because of my small calves.

What is your height and weight?
5'11, 215

Where do you call home?
I currently live in Savannah, GA

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
Well when its deer season, that's where you will find me.  Other than that, just like to hang out with family at the house.

What do you do for a living?
I am a retired Vet (22 years), going to school. I am also the Defensive Coordinator at Savannah High School

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played Football, Wrestling, and Baseball in High School.  Joined the military right after high school.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I started playing upper softball with Primetime.  Dennis Davison and Tony B gave me the opportunity to play on their conference team.  To this day they will continue to be family.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
defense.  some people say pitching.  I've seen D,C pitchers throw better knuckleballs than some pitchers on the conference.  But defense is hands down the best in the country.  Anything on the infield is either an out or a very close play.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
Not really

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
I would say that my career highlight/highlights are not being picked up by teams.  That gives me a chip on my shoulder and gives me the extra motivation needed when I play on the conference.  Every time I come to the plate, I try to make them pay for not picking me up.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
There are many that I can say about my career or lack of career (Purcell) lol.  But I really give a lot of credit to the late Mike Turney.  He was the only person that took a chance on me when I was coming up.  Back then I was way worse than I was now, so I was a handful and he was the one that could get me to give everything.  I miss you bro!

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
This is some advice that I should have taken when I was coming up.  Stay humble! My mother always said, that you shouldn't have to tell people how good you are, they should be able to see it.  Fell on deaf ears for a long time.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
pinky overlap. 27 Oz.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
BP and occasionally gym

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
I am a Chicago Cubs fan. My favorite sport is football outside of softball

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
I'm weird,  I don't like stepping on people shadows if I can help it.  And never step on the foul lines.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
Legend

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
Honestly I enjoy it just the way it is.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
I like playing in the Boones.  All you can hit and some good competition always shows up.  Never won it, but have came real close.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Best softball complex is Viera. I just hate it now, because none of my teams have done good when we play there. lol

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Me, Mike Williams, Corey Gilbert, Wes Taylor, and Charles love us some Cracker Barrel.  We have eaten at every Cracker Barrel on the conference.

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
Well I was playing OF at the Dual. Brambilla hit a high fly ball.  I was camp under it, but it seemed to be spinning.  and I ended up dropping it.  Everyone was laughing until Tristan Medcalf looked way worse than me when he went out there.  lol.. Sponsor got mad because we were laughing too much.  Love ya Joey..lmao

Tell us something about you that most would never know about you?
That even though I'm an a##hole on the field.  I am actually a pretty good dude.  lol

What was your favorite sports related gift you have ever given or received?
the best related gift that I have received is becoming a Demarini Factory Hitter. Ike Rivers and Mike Cornell gave me the opportunity to represent a great brand with a really good product.
