2018 Newbreed 'AA'

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
Mainly middle field positions, but can play anywhere team needs me.

Why do you like the game of softball?
the Competitiveness of the game and the travel of playing conference ball. Being able to meet with other people while traveling is awesome due to playing softball.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Blive or stir-fri

What is your height and weight?
6'0" 210Lbs

Where do you call home?
Redmond, Washington

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
If I'm not playing softball or coaching baseball during the weekend I'm most likely hanging at home with my family or going out with friends and watching movies, sports.

What do you do for a living?
I am a teacher as a para-educator for the school district then coach high school baseball for Juanita High School.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
Yes Lake Washington High school (09), College of Southern Idaho (11), University of Western Oregon (12)

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
After graduating from college and not having much to do after working, was trying to find a baseball league to play in, but found out that the league was underdeveloped on skill level. So threw my name in the play league for softball. Met some people that played competitively and asked me to play. Kind of each year of playing have moved up a level of ball.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
Just the consistent at bats and defensive plays

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
I tried to play my game, but like to pick and pull things from everyone I watch or play against over the years. Either its on the field or off the field with their preparation before games…

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
Playing with Newbreed, and getting the opportunity to play in the Major World Series in 2018.  Remembering hitting my first Stadium Bomb in Florida was a pretty cool thing. Especially getting joked on with my reaction was a fun time.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
My buddy Ryan Lekness, seems like anytime I need advice about softball things either its on the field or off the field he's always their to give his advice. He has also given several opportunities playing at the conference level.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
always being available to tournaments, having the right attitude towards to game (not a right, but a privilege to play softball), being smart on and off the field when playing.  Consistently putting in the work with the bat, glove, and physical tools

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
I tape my batting grip a certain way, swing a mid to end loaded bat normally a 26 or 26.5 oz bat.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
play during the winter months on the weekends, workout with my high school players during the off season.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Mariners, Seahawks

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
make sure I have something to eat before playing.

What would be your "at bat" music selection?
"Taste" Tyga

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
not trying to do "too much" letting the game come to me, not allowing the game to speed up.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Playing the superdrafts either its in Washington, Oregon or Florida… I always have a blast meeting with old friends I haven't seen in a while or meeting new friends.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Playing at Space Coast in Florida because had some great softball memories playing there.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Jimmy Johns or any sandwich place.
